Some Like It Hot:
ReplyDeleteA good comedy, but you do have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit to swallow the fact nobody recognises those two muggers are no dames...
A Christmas Story:
Can't say I thought much of this film in all honesty.
It's a wonderful life:
I'm not quite sure how or why Frank Capra came to be the most represented director on EFAS with 4 films, but in any case I do think he was good at the kind of films he did, and his reputation for being too sentimental is a tad unfair, as shown by this film which in the first half has some very dark and disturbing moments by the standards of the period.
Chaplin, what else needs to be said about him...
ReplyDeleteAmelie:
Yes the film is quirky, imaginative and peopled by interesting characters, but me personally I can't help but get annoyed by it, it's such a nostalgia film, trying to suck audiences in, especially French ones with a false fake depiction of a conservative retro image of a bygone France, which in fact never existed but French people want to kid themselves that it did and long for it.
Singin in the rain:
The best American musical ever, and well in fact probably the only good one too.
