EFAS went for a Swedish week in 4th week. Lasse Hallström is a famous Swedish filmmaker who has been nominated for an Academy Award twice, one of which being for this film. It tells the story of a boy whose ill mother needs to rest alone at home and because he doesn't get along well with his brother, goes to live in another town with his uncle. Despite all the trouble and difficulties he has to go through as a kid, he still finds a way to enjoy his life and appreciate how there are many more people who have had to deal with worse.
Let The Right One In (2008)
Director: Tomas Alfredson
Cast: Kare Hedebrant, Lina Leandersson, Per Ragnar
Country: Sweden / Language: Swedish / Running time: 109 minutes
Second Swedish film of the week was another movie which made a lot of buzz in world cinema a couple of years ago and is a vampire film based on a novel of the same title by John Ajvide Lindqvist which tells the story of a 12 year old boy who constantly gets bullied by his school mates. He starts to develop feelings for a girl of the same age who lives next to his house. Unlike most vampire films, this one mainly focuses on the immaculate relationship between the two kids coming from completely different backgrounds rather than gory scenes of murder and biting.
My Life as a Dog:
ReplyDeleteI still remember the nostalgia of the 1950s Sweden setting of this film and the touching portrayal of a young boy coming to grips with the difficulties of life, a really nice gentle film.
Let the right one in:
Have to say this film left me somewhat cold, no pun intended, although I can see why many like it.
