Man on Wire (2008)

  1. Was there ever a man so compellingly magnetic, with so much exuberance and enthusiasm for life?! Selling the idea to his friends and acquaintences would have been the easy part, I suspect.. you'd be carried along with his excitement, his vision.

I felt for those who struggled with themselves, the closer it got, as realisation dawned that they could be involved and in part, responsible, for his death. A very real and difficult decision to make. Jean Louis' emotional recollection of his friend's security on the wire, I found incredibly moving; and terribly sad, that this huge chapter in both their lives signalled a parting of the ways for them.

A wonderful portrayal of a dream long dreamt, and it's fulfillment.

  2. Why climb Everest Mallory was asked, because it's there he famously replied, and Philippe Petit is made of the same ilk, an idealist and anti-pragmatist who knows to appreciate the beauty of things for its own sake, but what a gift he gave us and now I find this event the overbearing memory of the twin towers that stays with my mental associations rather than 9/11, a poetic recapturing of the towers for beauty from the hands of uglyness.
