Infernal Affairs (2002)
Oldboy:
ReplyDeleteThis, in one film, basically sums up all the reasons why modern Asian action cinema has become the most exciting anywhere, its fearlessness in going anywhere thematically or stylistically and its unashamed swagger and over-the-topness in telling an unbelievable story.
Infernal Affairs:
The fine line between right and wrong, good and evil, protector and threat, these were not necessarily very new themes to be dealt with, but add in the complex tension between performance and identity (a theme innate to all humans living in society) and the panache of a Hong Kong action thriller, and we got this very satisfying crime drama.
